This special topic poll sought respondents' views on the 1995 federal government shutdown as well as their opinions of President Bill Clinton, the United States Congress, the Speaker of the House of Representatives Newt Gingrich, and the Senate majority leader Bob Dole. Respondents were asked to indicate their level of trust in the federal government, with whom they placed blame for the federal government shutdown, and whether they supported the latest Republican budget proposal.
