- Mento and Jonkonnu. Statements by Rainford West, Ellorene Gordon and parade scenes. Dance Co-ordinator of the Jamaica Cultural Development Corporation (JCDC), Maria Smith explains some of the aspects and origins of the Jonkonnu with illustrations from history. Narrator continues the history and describes the different types of costume or characters with historical illustration. Maria Smith further explores the cultural influences on the characters. The narrator continues pointing out characteristics of the costuming. Scenes of a parade. A look at the costumes being constructed and designed by a small tailor shop. A look at costumes on parade in the street. Flute (fife) player, Joel Henry talks about how he got involved with Jonkonnu band. Narrator talks about the importance of the fife man and the various functions of the different characters as the parade continues and the characters are seen acting out their roles. Dance co-ordinator Maria Smith talks about ways in which sponsors can help keep the traditions alive Rainford West
