Summary
"Michio ito (ca. 1892-1961), born of a samurai family in Tokyo, pioneered artistic dance in the United States from 1916 to 1941. Here he composed the beautiful dances that made him famous -- dances that are neither of the East nor the West but creations in his own individual style. Miss Caldwell explains thirty-seven of these dances in such simple terms that the reader easily perceives their relation to music and resemblance to poetry, and thus comes to a clear comprehension of dance as an art and of the distinction between art and entertainment"--Dust jacket
